If you dont know the Protect Password, just open a blank document and use Insert, File to add the protected document. Selecting commands (eg Select All) are greyed out. When you create a new template or document using lots of content controls all of the mouse work involved in setting properties and custom placeholder text can become quite laborious. If the entire document is protected it will always jump back to the start of the document.
